CHILD GARDEN MONTESSORI offers unique learning opportunities for children in a nurturing, safe and stimulating environment. With a Montessori curriculum and focus on early childhood education and development, we provide a warm and nurturing environment that allows for the children to explore and where their natural curiosity and love for knowledge guides them in their learning. Our school is located in the historical education building behind the Basilica in the beautiful Loring Park neighborhood of Minneapolis, with opportunities for walks to the park, the Sculpture Garden, the Farmers Market and other areas of the neighborhood. We have 4 Preschool, 4 Toddler and 3 Infant rooms. Our hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Role Description
We are currently seeking several full and part-time Assistants at the Infant, Toddler and Preschool levels. The assistant works with the Lead Guide and other classroom assistants to prepare and maintain a nurturing classroom environment, implementing the Montessori
approach to education, with the ability to relate well with children and adults. Our staff model patience, grace and kindness to the children and each other. Typical shifts include: 7:30-4, 9-5:30, and 11-5:30.

Reports to the Classroom Lead Guide
Primary Responsibilities
Support the work of the Lead Guide
Preparing the classroom environment for the children
Assist in daily preparation and maintenance of the environment, keeping it clean, supplied and in good repair
Supervising and redirecting children while the Lead Guide gives presentations
Observe and record important classroom data for the Lead Guide
Interactions with Children:
Assist in ensuring the health, physical and social/emotional well-being and safety of the children at all times.
Interact with children in a quiet, kind, honest and respectful manner.
Help to maintain the classroom routine, meeting the needs of each child with respect to their interests, special needs, temperament, talents and individual style/pace of learning.
Model calm, patient and positive behavior you expect from the children
Interactions with Families:
Establish a positive relationship with families
Participate in community events as needed
Learning Environment
Assist in maintaining a safe and prepared environment for the children, ensuring children are supervised at all times
Complete opening and closing responsibilities based on the position schedule
Effectively communicate and collaborate with the classroom team
Work closely with other staff to share responsibilities as needed
Be flexible to assist in other classrooms as needed
Complete incident reports in a timely manner
Perform miscellaneous projects and tasks as requested by the Lead Guide or the Director
Complete yearly professional development training as required.
Qualifications
A high school diploma with minimum one year of experience working with children ages 0-6, preferably in a Montessori setting
A passion for Early Childhood Development and working with young children
Must be motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Must demonstrate a positive attitude with a commitment to the school community
Must be able to work the hours of the position based on the organization’s needs
Must complete clearance of a background check
Patience, creativity and the ability to adapt to the changing needs of children
Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with children, parents and caregivers
Physical Requirements – Candidate must:
Be able to perform medium physical work, lifting up to 50 pounds
Be able to move easily throughout the classroom, sit on low stools, move to/from the floor with frequency. Movements include, but are not limited to: pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, jumping, sweeping and stairs.
Hear and speak in order to use the telephone and/or communicate with people.
Have effective verbal and oral communication in English, including following oral and written instruction.
Environment includes indoor rooms and gym, outdoors in all seasons, stairs, & long walks.
